Writing a Letter to Your Parents
You want your letter to get your parent's attention, allow them to know what's going on and how you are feeling. So it might be hard to know where to start.
Below is a sample of a letter that you can personalize to fit your situation.
Dear Mom,
I usually don't do stuff like this, but I thought this may be a good way to talk to you. I wanted to just talk with you sometime but it's hard because I'm kind of embarrassed.
I have been feeling really down lately. My classes are impossible and dad is probably going to freak out when he sees my report card. I feel like I always let him down, especially because my grades are never good enough. I really do try, it just doesn't come easy to me. This kid at school is also giving me a hard time and slamming me into lockers. I am sick of all of it.
I don't know what kind of help I need, but it's like there is a dark cloud over me all the time. I'm always tired, but I can't sleep. I tried to talk to a couple friends who listened, but I could tell they didn't really get it. I even thought about going to the counselor at school, but I doubt that she would care.
I don't want things to keep going on like this, but I don't know what else to do. I know you won't be able to fix all this stuff, but I wanted to let you know what was going on and see if you had any advice or anything that you could give me.
Your son, Zach
Writing a letter like this lets you share what's going on and how you are feeling, and it lets the person know that you want their help and support. You can send your letter via email or write it out on paper. Do whatever works for you.
If you find that it's hard to talk about something personal with your parents, don't stress out! Put your thoughts in a letter so you can share your story and get the support you need.
